Electrical works at 4,400 m: what changes against a lowland project
At four thousand four hundred metres the technique does not change. What changes is crew productivity, how many days you can work, and what happens when a part is missing.
Design parameters are not decorative
A high-altitude mining site in the San Juan Andes is designed for a minimum of −23 °C, 257 km/h wind and 660 kgf/m² snow load. Those numbers drive hardware, anchoring, enclosure selection and even sealing type. A switchboard that behaves well in the valley can condense and fail up there.
Crew productivity drops and must be budgeted
Physical work above four thousand metres yields less. Add the hour lost daily to safety briefing, transfer and meals, plus the 40 km/h site speed limit. Work that takes twenty crew days in the lowlands can take thirty up there, and that belongs in the schedule, not in the second month's progress claim.
The weather sets the working window
You do not work every day. Planning must include expected lost days and clear suspension criteria for wind or snow. A high-altitude schedule without contingency days is a schedule that will slip.
A missing part is not solved same-day
That is the biggest change. On an urban site, a missing fitting is bought in the morning. In the Andes it is two days on the road and a lost working window. That is why the materials list closes before mobilisation, with margin, and why the reel plan and splice matrix are settled at the desk.
Brand approval: the risk almost nobody raises
High-altitude clients commonly require approved brands for fibre and critical components. We know of half-finished projects where already-purchased fibre was rejected for not being on the approved list. The only defence is agreeing the brand in writing before the purchase order, and recording it in the offer.
Documentation is built during, not after
The closure dossier — measurements, testing, as-built drawings — is assembled alongside execution. Trying to reconstruct it afterwards, with the crew demobilised and four hundred kilometres away, is exactly how progress claims get lost.
